Our Fighter Boy
The chronicle of our journey with our special first born
Archives / My Personal Blog / My Multiplypost-op #1: csdu day 37
day 36 - my baby isn’t doing too great today. saw me once he woke up and wanted to be carried. however, he was still cranky and angry even when carried - which does not usually happen. he normally falls asleep pretty quickly. not only that, i noticed that he’s breathing is harder and heavier than usual off the c-pap. when i followed his breathing pattern, i was literally panting. not only that, but he is starting to have alot of secretions again.
the nurse on duty called for the onduty doctor and after observing, and listening to his lungs, the registrar on duty increased his c-pap pressure from 5 to 6 peeps, and increased his oxygen level from 1l to 1.5l. they also took a blood test to check his gases - which alhamdullilah turned out alright. and after which he had an x-ray taken to see how his lungs are.
x-ray showed his lungs to be wetter than usual. maybe due to a larger inflow of the blood into the lungs. and thus causing the increase in the secretions. another issue thats on the doctors’ mind is if the postagladin may be causing a counter effect on him instead. yes its allowing his O2 sats to look good (70s range) but it may be causing him to be more breathless too - which isn’t too great.
the other issue on my mind was that his bed was changed to a bed (bed 1) near to the nurses due to the c-pap machine plus the fact that he’s on the postagladin. however, this bed is directly under the aircon vent. he was in this bed before and i noticed that his secretions were quite a lot, until we requested for a bed (bed 3)that’s not under the aircon - which was further away from the nurses. and yet again, when he was back to bed 1, although it was only for a few days, he started to have an increased build up in the secretions. whether it is due to the aircon or another reason i don’t know, but i’m not too keen on him being under the aircon. thus, requested for him to change bed after the whole drama that happened. change of ‘fengshui’.
albeit the fact that the new area is slightly cramped but i’m pretty happy, as its away from the aircon vent and its near the nurses table.
once the move was done and Izhar was settled in his new bed, i went to see my lil darling. told him what a strong boy he was and he actually gave me a smile! it just made my day after the whole drama. he hasn’t really smiled at me ever since we had to put on masks due to the swine flu and that was just a lovely gift to end a stressed out day.
stayed til almost 11 just to see that he’s really settled.
day 37 - our lil trooper was awake when i went to see him. enjoying the mural on the wall beside him and i don’t think he realised that mommy was there til later. once he realised my presence he started crying which signalled carrying time.
only thing is, due to what happened yesterday, i couldn’t carry him without taking the c-pap mask on. so, in order to carry him, the nurses had to shift the c-pap machine and put it onto the bed, and i had to be careful with all his lines and all. oh. i think i forgot to mention earlier that they had to put him on another medication to run together with the postagladin so as to help push the postagladin through his lines.
so anyways, it was Izhar’s carrying time, and as usual, as he made himself comfortable, he would do his lil grunts of complains. once he has made himself heard, he falls asleep.
sleep in mommy’s arms was much better than yesterday. he looked more comfortable, but would stir whenever i move my arm, as if he knows that i may put him onto the bed soon. sigh… how i would so want to just hold him and not put him down…
anyways, once he’s pretty much in deep sleep, put him down and adjusted all the necessary machines back into place. however, once asleep, both azhar and i notice that he’s not sleeping soundly. the poor boy looks like he’s dreaming too much. i just hope its not due to his breathing.
