Izhar looked better today. they took off the c-pap at 10am and he was a happy kid all the way. he maintained his O2 level to be above 80%, and was actually having a stable heartbeat rate and O2 level while sleeping. they only got a little erratic when Azhar and I got there. think he was excited and his little heart got a little overworked the whole time we were there.
His recent habit is to ‘overwork’ the nurses - whenever the nurses change his diapers, he’ll straight away poop into the new one changed, and they’ll have to change his diapers again…. he’s also not shy with farting. pretty loud actually, and you’ll know he’s pooping cuz of the look of concentration on his face. at times, his face will go really red.
and… normally, as far as we know, he normally knocks out after his feeds. but yesterday… he was actually trying hard to stay awake for as long as we were there - which was for about 1.5hrs. he was already yawning a coupla times and his eyes were closing yet he’d force them open again… breaks our hearts. as soon as he calmed down and fell asleep, we had to quietly pack up and leave the room.
ok now, on to the gritty details:
his blood platelet count has gone down to 906,000 - which is still high but at least lower than yesterday. the 24hr blood culture didn’t come up with any signs of bacteria, and we’re praying that the 48hr blood culture comes up negative too.
what has been diagnosed is that there are some fluids in his lungs, and that may be a reason why his heart is working harder and his O2 level is lower than earlier. they’ve cut down his fluids and giving him a med to help flush the fluids. insha’allah he’ll get better… a reason why his blood platelets are high may be due to the fact that he is aspleenic. one of the functions of the spleen is to remove excess blood platelets from our system, and there is a possibility that there will be a high count and that it will recede on its own over time - which is something we’re praying hard for.
we’re very much tip-toeing on glass shards now but we just want to focus on the good stuff that we see with regards to him…
