Our Fighter Boy

The chronicle of our journey with our special first born

here we go again…

my dear boy is on the c-pap again, as well as had a blood transfusion. call it a mother’s instinct but after seeing him on sunday, i suspected that the doctors will look at putting him on the c-pap again as his O2 stats were not very encouraging. not only that, he also seemed to be using a lot more effort to breath.

however, even though his O2 stats were below 80%, he didn’t look very uncomfortable except when he had to poop - which is making him work harder as he is on formula now; and which makes him really cranky cuz he gotta work harder to get the poop out.

anyways, the lil fella really hates the tubes. sigh. when we arrived he was extremely uncomfortable and was superbly cranky. this is the first time we see him this cranky. normally, long as i carry him he’d calm down… but this time, he was wriggling in my arms and literally flailing his head as he just wants that tubes off him. even when we put him on his cot, he’s trying his hardest to push that thing off his face. *heartache* we thought that he was also cranky cuz he was hungry; but even after his feed, he was still cranky and wouldn’t even sleep - which is not his normal practice.

after a while, the nurse called for the neo-natal doctor in charge as she also felt that he was too uncomfortable. the doctor came by, checked Izhar and actually said that he was fine - be it his heart, his lungs (were clear) and his liver (were not swollen). and he didn’t have any idea why the lil fella was so uncomfortable. we then asked for his c-pap to be off for a few hours just to let him be comfortable. straight after they took it off, that poor fella cried for a few seconds and then straight away went to sleep. he didn’t even wake up when we carressed him, in comparison to just a few minutes earlier when he was just so agitated.

also, i believe he has been agitated the whole day and thus was really really tired. so tired and using that much more energy, that the blood transfusion wasn’t working - as in he still looked pale, in comparison to the first blood transfusion when he had colour back in less than an hour after the transfusion.

on the other hand, i am concerned that he does seem to be using more effort to  breath over the weekends. however, his heartrate and O2 level doesn’t seem to be affected even though physically he looks like he’s working harder…

whatever it is, we just pray that he gets better. all i ask is that he be comfortable.
