post-op #1 : day 7

its been a week since Izhar was pushed into the operating theatre.

thus far he’s been doing great. even then, he’s still having some issues here and there. he’s potassium level is on the low side, he isn’t digesting his milk well yet; he still has quite an amount of septum in his lungs - there’s a therapist to help with the suction… apart from that on the whole, the doctors are saying that my lil boy is doing pretty well.

he’s still a bit knocked out from the morphine and medazoline (sp), but they’re weaning him off the the meds so that he won’t be too sedated as they want him to start breathing on his own so that they can waen him off the ventilating machine. they’ve lowered the assisted O2 level to 25% yesterday, so hopefully he’ll be on room oxygen (21%) soon. i’m not looking forward to having things move along too quickly. I just want him to take things at his own pace but the surgeons do seem to place high expectations for him - which, i’m taking it to be something positive.

he responded pretty well to us yesterday. azhar was playing with him yesterday, or should i say reading to him the baby abc/123 book that liza lent us and Izhar was giving us this smirk of a smile. i can’t wait to have him extubated… can’t wait to hear him cry again. it hurts to see him cry and yet there’s no sound coming out from him.

just a little more…
